In 2017 election of Gauradaha Municipality (Jhapa district), candidate Rohit Kumar Shah of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 10,308 (42.43%) votes out of total votes of 24,294 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Madan Prasad Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 9,854 (28.48%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,132 (8.50) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Geeta Bhetwal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,620 (44.90%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sumitra Kumari Kharel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 7,911 (23.08%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,124 (10.83) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 217 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 131 (60.37%) males and 86 (39.63%) females. Moreover, there were total 39 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 86 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 38 females and 36 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
