In 2017 election of Ganeshman Charnath Municipality (Dhanusa district), candidate Ram Babu Yadav of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 3,127 (25.85%) votes out of total votes of 12,099 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Durga Bahadur Malla Thakuri of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 2,561 (16.82%) of votes. The rest of 15 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,411 (26.49) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Mina Kumari Yadav of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,610 (22.13%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Nisha Moktan of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 2,486 (17.26%) of votes and came in second position. Other 8 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 6,698 (28.40) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 348 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 205 (58.91%) males and 143 (41.09%) females. Moreover, there were total 74 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 126 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 62 females and 59 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
