In 2017 election of Gaidakot Municipality (Nawalparasi_E district), candidate Chatra Raj Paudel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,302 (46.00%) votes out of total votes of 24,570 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Gajendra Bahadur Ale of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 11,078 (30.88%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,190 (4.46) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bishnu Kumari Kandel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 11,555 (47.31%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Radha Paudel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,456 (29.06%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,415 (4.94) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 363 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 202 (55.65%) males and 161 (44.35%) females. Moreover, there were total 82 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 18 wards. Same as, total 133 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 67 females and 65 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
