In 2017 election of Gadhimai Municipality (Rautahat district), candidate Shyam Prasad Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,457 (35.09%) votes out of total votes of 15,551 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shekh Abulkalam Ajad of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) who secured 5,056 (24.07%) of votes. The rest of 14 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 5,038 (16.20) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Samudra Gupta of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,541 (36.22%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Punkaliya Devi of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,933 (18.87%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,823 (19.03) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 213 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 137 (64.32%) males and 76 (35.68%) females. Moreover, there were total 54 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 69 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 33 females and 32 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
