In 2017 election of Ekdara Rural Municipality (Mahottari district), candidate Ramchabila Shah of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 2,318 (27.04%) votes out of total votes of 8,574 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dip Narayan Mandal of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) who secured 1,968 (18.07%) of votes. The rest of 12 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,288 (25.01) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Mahajabi Khatun of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 2,252 (27.12%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Nirmala Kumari Devi of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 1,945 (18.43%) of votes and came in second position. Other 8 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,106 (24.73) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 209 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 134 (64.11%) males and 75 (35.89%) females. Moreover, there were total 49 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 72 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 34 females and 30 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
