In 2017 election of Durgathali Rural Municipality (Bajhang district), candidate Prayag Raj Joshi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,590 (37.06%) votes out of total votes of 4,290 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Janak Bahadur Daulyal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,453 (24.71%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,247 (14.53) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Parbhati Devi Japrel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,612 (38.27%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sharada Kumari B.k of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 1,231 (21.14%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,369 (16.25) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 115 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 68 (59.13%) males and 47 (40.87%) females. Moreover, there were total 22 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 43 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 21 females and 21 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
