In 2017 election of Dhulikhel Municipality (Kavrepalanchok district), candidate Ashok Kumar Byanju Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,981 (51.18%) votes out of total votes of 15,595 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ramesh Prasad Humagain of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,408 (22.94%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,206 (7.07) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bimala Kumari Chaulagain (sharma) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,723 (44.96%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Nirmala Kumari Yagol Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,940 (22.79%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,290 (11.00) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 238 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 157 (65.97%) males and 81 (34.03%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 94 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 43 females and 31 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
