In 2017 election of Dhankaul Rural Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Ramashraya Shah of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,521 (50.61%) votes out of total votes of 8,933 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Gauri Shankar Shah Swornakar of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 3,282 (24.39%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,130 (6.32) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Akali Sahani of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,461 (50.10%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sangita Kumari of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,290 (24.62%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,153 (6.47) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 131 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 82 (62.60%) males and 49 (37.40%) females. Moreover, there were total 32 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 41 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 22 females and 21 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
