In 2017 election of Dhangadhimai Municipality (Siraha district), candidate Hari Narayan Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,683 (33.01%) votes out of total votes of 17,215 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shiv Shankar Mahato of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 4,429 (19.34%) of votes. The rest of 15 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 7,103 (20.63) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Phul Kumari Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,613 (32.91%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Nirmala Devi Bastola of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,527 (19.97%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 6,917 (20.28) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 369 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 222 (60.16%) males and 147 (39.84%) females. Moreover, there were total 81 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 133 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 66 females and 64 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
