In 2017 election of Dhanauji Rural Municipality (Dhanusa district), candidate Badri Narayan Singh of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,420 (33.78%) votes out of total votes of 7,163 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Jibendra Jha of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) who secured 2,019 (21.07%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,724 (19.01) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Ramwati Devi Mandal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,326 (32.82%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Indila Yadav of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,019 (21.45%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 2,743 (19.35) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 133 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 86 (64.66%) males and 47 (35.34%) females. Moreover, there were total 28 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 48 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 22 females and 19 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
