In 2017 election of Dhanapalthan Rural Municipality (Morang district), candidate Hari Lal Singh of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,187 (33.88%) votes out of total votes of 15,308 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Musharu Mandal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 4,835 (23.59%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 5,286 (17.27) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Nasima Bano of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,635 (30.76%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Upasi Rajbanshi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,421 (22.44%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 6,014 (19.95) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 208 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 125 (60.10%) males and 83 (39.90%) females. Moreover, there were total 43 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 74 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 39 females and 38 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
