In 2017 election of Devghat Rural Municipality (Tanahun district), candidate Durga Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,879 (44.33%) votes out of total votes of 6,495 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Karna Bahadur Gurung of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,814 (30.02%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 802 (6.17) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Bimala Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,860 (43.94%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sabitra Neupane of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,859 (30.52%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 790 (6.07) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 85 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 55 (64.71%) males and 30 (35.29%) females. Moreover, there were total 19 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 31 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 14 females and 13 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
