In 2017 election of Devchuli Municipality (Nawalparasi_E district), candidate Purna Kumar Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,579 (43.05%) votes out of total votes of 19,926 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Hari Prasad Neupane of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 8,510 (29.85%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,837 (7.12) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Parbata Tiwari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,751 (44.35%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Laxmi Bastakoti of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,392 (29.46%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,588 (6.56) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 277 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 156 (56.32%) males and 121 (43.68%) females. Moreover, there were total 62 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 17 wards. Same as, total 103 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 50 females and 48 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
