In 2017 election of Dasharathchand Municipality (Baitadi district), candidate Narendra Singh Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,762 (35.03%) votes out of total votes of 10,739 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Pushkar Raj Joshi of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) who secured 3,700 (25.52%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,277 (15.26) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Mina Chand of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,731 (36.15%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Saraswati Nepali of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,997 (21.33%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,594 (17.41) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 222 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 137 (61.71%) males and 85 (38.29%) females. Moreover, there were total 47 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 84 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 40 females and 40 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
