In 2017 election of Dakshinkali Municipality (Kathmandu district), candidate Mohan Basnet of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,698 (39.36%) votes out of total votes of 11,936 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shashi Sharma Aryal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 4,268 (25.66%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,970 (12.44) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Basanti Tamang of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,749 (40.59%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Mira Maharjan of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,330 (26.33%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,620 (11.20) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 195 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 122 (62.56%) males and 73 (37.44%) females. Moreover, there were total 48 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 75 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 35 females and 22 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
