In 2017 election of Dakneshwori Municipality (Saptari district), candidate Shiva Narayan Shah of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,880 (23.79%) votes out of total votes of 16,308 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Narayan Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,549 (17.58%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,879 (27.22) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Indu Devi Yadav of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,856 (23.90%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ram Kumari Pandit of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,569 (17.85%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,708 (26.99) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 327 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 191 (58.41%) males and 136 (41.59%) females. Moreover, there were total 67 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 123 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 58 females and 60 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
