In 2017 election of Choubise Rural Municipality (Dhankuta district), candidate Khajindra Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,782 (46.93%) votes out of total votes of 8,058 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Harka Chemjong of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,279 (27.69%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 997 (6.19) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Yagya Kumari Ruchal Gajmer of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,696 (48.19%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Upendra Bahadur Limbu Lawati of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 2,699 (23.75%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,274 (8.31) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 128 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 79 (61.72%) males and 49 (38.28%) females. Moreover, there were total 25 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 52 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 22 females and 21 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
