In 2017 election of Chhedagad Municipality (Jajarkot district), candidate Lal Bahadur Mahatara of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,136 (42.20%) votes out of total votes of 12,171 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ratna Bahadur Khadka of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,347 (25.12%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,688 (11.04) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sarita Oli of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,147 (42.33%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Reshma Khatri of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,260 (24.61%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,753 (11.32) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 205 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 123 (60.00%) males and 82 (40.00%) females. Moreover, there were total 41 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 13 wards. Same as, total 79 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 39 females and 38 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
