In 2017 election of Chapakot Municipality (Syangja district), candidate Shiva Kumar Giri of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,989 (51.92%) votes out of total votes of 11,536 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Buddhi Man Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 5,008 (28.58%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 539 (2.34) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bimala Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,358 (55.88%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Saraswati Devi Bhattarai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,496 (25.35%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 524 (2.30) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 151 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 91 (60.26%) males and 60 (39.74%) females. Moreover, there were total 35 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 54 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 27 females and 27 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
