In 2017 election of Chandrapur Municipality (Rautahat district), candidate Ram Chandra Chaudhari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,780 (36.35%) votes out of total votes of 26,905 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Uddhav Prasad Regmi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 8,831 (24.07%) of votes. The rest of 10 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,294 (15.41) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Ram Rati Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,916 (38.19%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Laxmi Baral of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,268 (23.04%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,782 (14.98) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 217 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 129 (59.45%) males and 88 (40.55%) females. Moreover, there were total 46 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 77 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 38 females and 36 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
