In 2017 election of Chandranagar Rural Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Mahendra Mahato Sudi of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,761 (34.61%) votes out of total votes of 10,866 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Shyam Prasad Singh of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,615 (17.88%) of votes. The rest of 11 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,490 (20.66) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Bina Devi Shah of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,663 (34.83%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Shanti Devi Rauniyar of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,249 (15.86%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,605 (21.89) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 222 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 139 (62.61%) males and 83 (37.39%) females. Moreover, there were total 51 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 76 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 35 females and 39 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
