In 2017 election of Chainpur Municipality (Sankhuwasabha district), candidate Bharat Kumar Khatri of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,317 (46.03%) votes out of total votes of 11,550 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shankar Man Kadel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,192 (30.78%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,041 (4.51) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Muna Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,398 (47.15%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Anjana Lingthep of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,803 (28.51%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,247 (5.45) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 193 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 123 (63.73%) males and 70 (36.27%) females. Moreover, there were total 41 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 77 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 35 females and 30 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
