In 2017 election of Bishnupur Rural Municipality (Saptari district), candidate Lilambar Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,124 (27.25%) votes out of total votes of 7,794 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Munilal Khang (khatwe) of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) who secured 1,659 (16.73%) of votes. The rest of 12 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,011 (25.73) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Janjira Devi Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,078 (30.60%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Usha Kumari Shah of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 1,480 (16.69%) of votes and came in second position. Other 10 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 3,233 (23.80) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 257 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 163 (63.42%) males and 94 (36.58%) females. Moreover, there were total 54 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 94 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 41 females and 42 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
