In 2017 election of Bhimad Municipality (Tanahun district), candidate Mekh Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,464 (50.57%) votes out of total votes of 12,782 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Pushpa Raj Parajuli of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 6,080 (31.59%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 238 (0.93) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sharada Khanal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,712 (52.60%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Indira Khanal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,775 (29.66%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 274 (1.07) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 145 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 86 (59.31%) males and 59 (40.69%) females. Moreover, there were total 32 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 53 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 26 females and 24 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
