In 2017 election of Bhaktapur Municipality (Bhaktapur district), candidate Sunil Prajapati of Nepal Majdoor Kissan Party (NMKP) secured 25,730 (63.76%) votes out of total votes of 40,356 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Prasad Kasula of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 6,560 (9.93%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,066 (9.99) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Rajani Joshi of Nepal Majdoor Kissan Party (NMKP) secured 25,711 (64.67%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ganga Laxmi Awal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,587 (10.06%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,458 (9.38) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 222 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 161 (72.52%) males and 61 (27.48%) females. Moreover, there were total 66 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 90 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 44 females and 8 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
