In 2017 election of Bhajani Municipality (Kailali district), candidate Sher Bahadur Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,228 (28.28%) votes out of total votes of 18,488 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Kewal Chaudhary of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) who secured 5,025 (21.19%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,235 (22.27) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Chanya Devi Devkota of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,008 (28.35%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Dhanbasi Dangaura of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) secured 4,378 (19.31%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,281 (23.44) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 274 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 159 (58.03%) males and 115 (41.97%) females. Moreover, there were total 60 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 104 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 55 females and 37 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
