In 2017 election of Bhagawatimai Rural Municipality (Dailekh district), candidate Dan Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,329 (35.07%) votes out of total votes of 6,641 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dasrath Khadka of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,889 (21.06%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,423 (18.24) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Chandra Regmi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,421 (37.42%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Mina Kumari Khadka of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,889 (21.25%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 2,160 (16.69) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 161 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 97 (60.25%) males and 64 (39.75%) females. Moreover, there were total 31 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 61 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 29 females and 29 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
