In 2017 election of Belbari Municipality (Morang district), candidate Gyanendra Subedi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,784 (37.10%) votes out of total votes of 29,066 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Raj Kumar Limbu of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 10,583 (26.56%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 7,699 (13.24) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Dhaka Kumari Parajuli of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,322 (39.26%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Rukmani Dhimal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 10,922 (27.20%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 6,594 (11.43) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 295 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 183 (62.03%) males and 112 (37.97%) females. Moreover, there were total 68 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 111 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 52 females and 48 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
