In 2017 election of Belauri Municipality (Kanchanpur district), candidate Poti Lal Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 6,764 (32.18%) votes out of total votes of 21,022 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Pallav Raj Bhatt of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 6,407 (23.06%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 7,851 (18.67) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Chitra Kumari Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,748 (32.50%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Radha Devi Kharel (kandel) of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 6,121 (22.25%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,891 (19.01) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 289 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 168 (58.13%) males and 121 (41.87%) females. Moreover, there were total 61 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 108 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 58 females and 50 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
