In 2017 election of Bariyapatti Rural Municipality (Siraha district), candidate Santosh Kumar Mahato of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 3,979 (45.93%) votes out of total votes of 8,663 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Baleshwor Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,881 (22.79%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,803 (10.41) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Rekha Kumari Yadav of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 3,763 (45.46%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Kumari Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,855 (23.71%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,660 (10.03) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 150 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 89 (59.33%) males and 61 (40.67%) females. Moreover, there were total 32 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 53 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 23 females and 28 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
