In 2017 election of Bardaghat Municipality (Nawalparasi_W district), candidate Dhiraj Sharma (basyal) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 12,814 (45.68%) votes out of total votes of 28,053 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bishwo Prem Pathak of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 11,774 (28.81%) of votes. The rest of 10 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,465 (6.18) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Maya Devi Paudel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 12,897 (45.89%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ramita Kumari Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 11,574 (28.23%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,632 (6.46) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 353 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 202 (57.22%) males and 151 (42.78%) females. Moreover, there were total 72 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 16 wards. Same as, total 135 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 67 females and 59 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
