Barbardiya is a Municipality, which is located in Bardiya district, Province No. 5 of Nepal. Barbardiya has total 11 wards, which are scattered across 226 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Barbardiya Municipality had total population of 68,012.
Wardwise Population and Households
As per 2011 population census, Barbardiya Municipality had total 68,012 population with 32,673 males and 35,339 females. Out of total wards, ward number 10 had the largest population 7,114, while ward number 2 had least number of population with 7,114.
With respect to number of households, Barbardiya Municipality had total 13,268 households. The ward number 10 had most households with total 1,436, while ward number 2 had least number of households with total 955 number of households.

In terms of age, the largest population in Barbardiya Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 9,167. However, gender wise largest population age group differs from the total population, such as largest male population falls between 10 and 14 with total 4,553 while female population falls between 15 and 19 with total 4,702 population. Literacy, Education Levels & Schooling
There were only 40,374 people fully literate in Barbardiya Municipality as of 2011 who were able to both read and write, while 1,201 people were able to read but not write. In percentage while compared to genderwise population, there were inf percent of male were literate, while the percentage of female literacy was inf only.The literacy ratio between male and female population was nan.
Out of total 22,120 population between the age of 5 and 25 as of 2011 in Barbardiya Municipality, total 10,798 males and 11,322 females were attending the school. Same as, out of total 8,542 population of the same age group who were not attending the school, total 3,510 male and 5,032 female were not attending teh school. The ratio of male and female who were going to school was 0.95 while the ratio for those who were not attending the school was 0.70.The CBS census also states that 84 males and 114 females did not state whether they were attending school or not.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 13,955 in Barbardiya Municipality with 6,700 (48.01%) of males and 7,255 (51.99%) females. There were total 57 schools. In average, 245 students were studying in each school.

Population by Language Spoken
Mostly spoken language in Barbardiya is Tharu, which is spoken by 49,752 people. The Barbardiya has people who speak other languages, such as Nepali, Magar, Raji, Maithili, Urdu, Hindi, Newar, Gurung, Doteli, Tamang, Sign Language, Dailekhi, Avadhi, etc.

There were as little as Dhanuk caste with population of as little as 12 in total. People of several other castes who live in Barbardiya are Chhetri, Brahmin - Hill, Kami, Magar, Damai/Dholi, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Thakuri, Sarki, Raji, Badi, Gurung, Muslim, Newar, Dalit Others, Lohar, Kumal, Terai Others, Tamang, Brahmin - Tarai, Gharti/Bhujel, Teli, Dhanuk, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Out of total 13268 households in Barbardiya Municipality, there were 6,332 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 727 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 119 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 5,319houses were founded on wood.
With respect to wall of the houses, 6,295 houses were mud bonded, 661 houses were cement bonded, 217 houses were wood planks bonded, 3,572 houses were bamboo bonded and 827 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

out of 13,268 households in Barbardiya Municipality, 951 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 12,182 households reported of using at least one facility. Economic Census
According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 2,147 establishments in Barbardiya Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 6,060 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 3,387 and female engagement of 2,673 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.82 people engaged with average males are 1.58 and females are 1.24. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.27, which means as many as 1.27 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
Similarly, the engagement of males were 55.89 percent while the females are 44.11 percent.
