Barahatal is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Surkhet district, Karnali Province of Nepal. Barahatal has total 10 wards, which are scattered across 455 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Barahatal Rural Municipality had total population of 26,802.
Wardwise Population and Households
As per 2011 population census, Barahatal Rural Municipality had total 26,802 population with 12,986 males and 13,816 females. Out of total wards, ward number 5 had the largest population 4,456, while ward number 1 had least number of population with 4,456.
With respect to number of households, Barahatal Rural Municipality had total 5,448 households. The ward number 5 had most households with total 978, while ward number 3 had least number of households with total 354 number of households.

In terms of age, the largest population in Barahatal Rural Municipality were between 5 and 9 years of age with total 3,661. Gender wise, there were 1,851 males and 1,810 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was above 75 with total 258 population, which consistes of 134 males and 124 females. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.72. Literacy, Education Levels & Schooling
There were only 15,556 people fully literate in Barahatal Rural Municipality as of 2011 who were able to both read and write, while 1,155 people were able to read but not write. In percentage while compared to genderwise population, there were inf percent of male were literate, while the percentage of female literacy was inf only.The literacy ratio between male and female population was nan.
Out of total 8,405 population between the age of 5 and 25 as of 2011 in Barahatal Rural Municipality, total 4,212 males and 4,193 females were attending the school. Same as, out of total 3,760 population of the same age group who were not attending the school, total 1,621 male and 2,139 female were not attending teh school. The ratio of male and female who were going to school was 1.00 while the ratio for those who were not attending the school was 0.76.The CBS census also states that 176 males and 232 females did not state whether they were attending school or not.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 6,697 in Barahatal Rural Municipality with 3,273 (48.87%) of males and 3,424 (51.13%) females. There were total 51 schools. In average, 131 students were studying in each school.

Population by Language Spoken
Mostly spoken language in Barahatal is Nepali, which is spoken by 23,465 people. The Barahatal has people who speak other languages, such as Magar, Raji, Gurung, Maithili, Newar, Sign Language, etc.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Barahatal Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Magar caste with total population of 8,122. There were as little as Terai Others caste with population of as little as 26 in total. People of several other castes who live in Barahatal are Chhetri, Kami, Damai/Dholi, Brahmin - Hill, Thakuri, Gurung, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Raji, Sarki, Kumal, Badi, Newar, Rajdhob, Terai Others, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Household Foundation
Out of total 5448 households in Barahatal Rural Municipality, there were 3,535 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 44 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 17 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 1,822houses were founded on wood.
With respect to wall of the houses, 3,498 houses were mud bonded, 214 houses were cement bonded, 1,628 houses were wood planks bonded, 78 houses were bamboo bonded and 1 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.
There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 4,260 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 869 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 139 houses had roof of tile, 42 houses had RCC roofs, 21 houses had roof of woods while 81 houses were reported having roof of mud. With reference to source of fuel, 5,383 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 2 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 5 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (15), bio-gas (15), fuel electricity (1), etc.
Same as, total 63 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 240, while 1,682 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.01.

out of 5,448 households in Barahatal Rural Municipality, 1,359 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 3,996 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 3,305, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 2,566.
Economic Census
According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 515 establishments in Barahatal Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 1,323 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 710 and female engagement of 613 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.57 people engaged with average males are 1.38 and females are 1.19. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.16, which means as many as 1.16 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
Similarly, the engagement of males were 53.67 percent while the females are 46.33 percent.
