In 2017 election of Banepa Municipality (Kavrepalanchok district), candidate Laxmi Narsingh Bade Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,409 (48.66%) votes out of total votes of 23,447 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Raj Joshi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 9,659 (27.71%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,379 (5.07) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Rekha Sapkota (dahal) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,002 (47.18%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Nirmala Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 10,060 (29.31%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,258 (4.84) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 316 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 202 (63.92%) males and 114 (36.08%) females. Moreover, there were total 79 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 122 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 56 females and 42 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
