In 2017 election of Balwa Municipality (Mahottari district), candidate Binod Kumar Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,616 (27.36%) votes out of total votes of 13,216 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Bijaya Mahato of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) who secured 3,496 (20.77%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,104 (23.09) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Rita Devi Jha of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,836 (28.68%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ram Dulari Devi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,637 (21.13%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,904 (22.07) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 329 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 204 (62.01%) males and 125 (37.99%) females. Moreover, there were total 73 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 119 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 56 females and 62 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
