In 2017 election of Bagmati Rural Municipality (Lalitpur district), candidate Bir Bahadur Lopchan of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,388 (45.97%) votes out of total votes of 7,370 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Durga Prasad Ghimire of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 2,252 (20.93%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,730 (11.74) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Ranjana Ghimire of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,426 (47.02%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Dol Kumari Singtan of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,340 (21.84%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,521 (10.44) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 127 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 81 (63.78%) males and 46 (36.22%) females. Moreover, there were total 28 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 47 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 24 females and 18 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
