In 2017 election of Bagchaur Municipality (Salyan district), candidate Lokman Budhathoki of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,121 (41.05%) votes out of total votes of 12,474 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Lok Bahadur Dangi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,680 (20.92%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,673 (14.72) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Kalpana Pun of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,215 (42.10%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Oka Devi Khatri of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,590 (20.39%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,583 (14.46) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 214 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 128 (59.81%) males and 86 (40.19%) females. Moreover, there were total 46 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 82 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 41 females and 36 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
