In 2017 election of Aurahi Rural Municipality (Dhanusa district), candidate Braham Dev Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,569 (34.02%) votes out of total votes of 7,551 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Umashankar Prasad Shah of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 1,904 (18.81%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 3,078 (20.38) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Mira Devi Sahani of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,494 (34.57%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Nanda Kumari Thakur of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,831 (18.86%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 2,889 (20.02) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 164 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 102 (62.20%) males and 62 (37.80%) females. Moreover, there were total 33 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 60 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 28 females and 28 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
