In 2017 election of Aurahi Municipality (Mahottari district), candidate Sunil Kumar Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,159 (29.09%) votes out of total votes of 10,860 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shankar Yadav of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) who secured 2,711 (19.34%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,990 (22.97) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Renu Jha of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,255 (30.61%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Renuka Kumari Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,959 (21.30%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,421 (20.79) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 265 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 167 (63.02%) males and 98 (36.98%) females. Moreover, there were total 67 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 89 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 44 females and 46 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
