In 2017 election of Apihimal Rural Municipality (Darchula district), candidate Dharmananda Singh Manyal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,249 (39.54%) votes out of total votes of 3,159 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Bhakta Singh Thekere (bohara) of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 988 (22.41%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 922 (14.59) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Urmila Bohara of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,336 (43.39%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Devaki Devi Bohara of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 913 (20.68%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 830 (13.48) of votes.

Moreover, there were total 18 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards.
