In 2017 election of Aathrai Tribeni Rural Municipality (Taplejung district), candidate Bishwo Nath Sitaula of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,227 (44.53%) votes out of total votes of 5,001 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Laxmi Bahadur Yakso of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 2,214 (30.63%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 560 (5.60) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Manju Paudyal (bhattarai) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,181 (44.00%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Mamata Subba (angbuhang) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,034 (28.50%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 742 (7.48) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 81 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 47 (58.02%) males and 34 (41.98%) females. Moreover, there were total 15 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 29 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 16 females and 14 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
