In 2017 election of Aathabis Municipality (Dailekh district), candidate Khadga Raj Upadhyay of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,927 (39.18%) votes out of total votes of 10,022 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Prem Prakash Shahi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,880 (27.82%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,215 (11.05) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Deepa Bohara of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,187 (41.99%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Gamata B.k of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,990 (28.18%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,795 (9.00) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 160 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 96 (60.00%) males and 64 (40.00%) females. Moreover, there were total 32 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 60 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 30 females and 30 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
