Mellekh is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Achham district, Sudurpashchim Province of Nepal. Mellekh has total 8 wards, which are scattered across 135 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Mellekh Rural Municipality had total population of 24,670.
Wardwise Population and Households
As per 2011 population census, Mellekh Rural Municipality had total 24,670 population with 11,537 males and 13,133 females. Out of total wards, ward number 4 had the largest population 4,654, while ward number 8 had least number of population with 4,654.
With respect to number of households, Mellekh Rural Municipality had total 4,360 households. The ward number 4 had most households with total 792, while ward number 8 had least number of households with total 346 number of households.
As illustrated in the chart, the ratio of male to female population was 0.88, which indicates that Mellekh Rural Municipality had 12 percent lower males as compared to the females. Same as, the population to household ratio was 5.66, which means that in average 5.66 family members lived in each household.

In terms of age, the largest population in Mellekh Rural Municipality were between 5 and 9 years of age with total 4,014. Gender wise, there were 2,028 males and 1,986 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was above 75 with total 439 population, which consistes of 197 males and 242 females. Literacy, Education Levels & Schooling
There were only 12,127 people fully literate in Mellekh Rural Municipality as of 2011 who were able to both read and write, while 927 people were able to read but not write. In percentage while compared to genderwise population, there were inf percent of male were literate, while the percentage of female literacy was inf only.The literacy ratio between male and female population was nan.
Out of total 8,790 population between the age of 5 and 25 as of 2011 in Mellekh Rural Municipality, total 4,457 males and 4,333 females were attending the school. Same as, out of total 3,024 population of the same age group who were not attending the school, total 1,080 male and 1,944 female were not attending teh school. The ratio of male and female who were going to school was 1.03 while the ratio for those who were not attending the school was 0.56.The CBS census also states that 41 males and 61 females did not state whether they were attending school or not.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 11,459 in Mellekh Rural Municipality with 5,548 (48.42%) of males and 5,911 (51.58%) females. There were total 35 schools. In average, 327 students were studying in each school.

Population by Language Spoken
Mostly spoken language in Mellekh is Achhami, which is spoken by 23,297 people. The Mellekh has people who speak other languages, such as Nepali, Maithili, etc.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Mellekh Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Chhetri caste with total population of 17,814. There were as little as Others caste with population of as little as 34 in total. People of several other castes who live in Mellekh are Dalit Others, Kami, Sarki, Thakuri, Brahmin - Hill, Damai/Dholi, Badi, Newar, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.
Top five castes of people in Mellekh Rural Municipality are Chhetri (17,814), Dalit Others (3,462), Kami (1,288), Sarki (694) and Thakuri (451) with total population of 23,709, which forms 96.10 percent out of total population of 24,670 in Mellekh Rural Municipality.Population by Disability

Household Foundation
Out of total 4360 households in Mellekh Rural Municipality, there were 4,293 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 5 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 2 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 9houses were founded on wood.
With respect to wall of the houses, 4,264 houses were mud bonded, 21 houses were cement bonded, 15 houses were wood planks bonded, 3 houses were bamboo bonded and 0 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.
There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 682 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 34 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 3,534 houses had roof of tile, 2 houses had RCC roofs, 2 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.
With respect to the toilets, 624 out of 4,360 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 2,542 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 1,157 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

With reference to source of fuel, 4,302 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 6 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 0 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (5), bio-gas (5), fuel electricity (0), etc.
Same as, total 1,712 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 406, while 655 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.39.
With reference to source of fuel, 4,302 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 6 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 0 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (5), bio-gas (5), fuel electricity (0), etc.

Facilities
out of 4,360 households in Mellekh Rural Municipality, 1,801 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 2,393 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 1,839, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 1,408.
Economic Census
According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 270 establishments in Mellekh Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 647 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 460 and female engagement of 187 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.40 people engaged with average males are 1.70 and females are 0.69. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 2.46, which means as many as 2.46 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
Similarly, the engagement of males were 71.10 percent while the females are 28.90 percent.
