Narayan is a Municipality, which is located in Dailekh district, Karnali Province of Nepal. Narayan has total 11 wards, which are scattered across 111 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Narayan Municipality had total population of 27,037.
Wardwise Population and Households
As per 2011 population census, Narayan Municipality had total 27,037 population with 12,645 males and 14,392 females. Out of total wards, ward number 1 had the largest population 3,580, while ward number 8 had least number of population with 3,580.
With respect to number of households, Narayan Municipality had total 5,791 households. The ward number 1 had most households with total 890, while ward number 10 had least number of households with total 393 number of households.
As illustrated in the chart, the ratio of male to female population was 0.88, which indicates that Narayan Municipality had 12 percent lower males as compared to the females. Same as, the population to household ratio was 4.67, which means that in average 4.67 family members lived in each household.
Absentee Population
As of 2011, 1,454 population in Narayan Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 5.38 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 1,330, which equals to 10.52 percent of total 12,645 males. Same as, 124 females were absent, which equals to 0.86 percent of 14,392 females. In terms of age, the largest population in Narayan Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 3,992. Gender wise, there were 2,010 males and 1,982 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 294 population, which consistes of 145 males and 149 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 10 and 14 (3,992), between 5 and 9 (3,527), between 15 and 19 (3,137), below 4 (3,061), between 20 and 24 (2,278) with total population of 15,995. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.56. Literacy, Education Levels & Schooling
There were only 17,043 people fully literate in Narayan Municipality as of 2011 who were able to both read and write, while 694 people were able to read but not write. In percentage while compared to genderwise population, there were inf percent of male were literate, while the percentage of female literacy was inf only.The literacy ratio between male and female population was nan.
Out of total 8,735 population between the age of 5 and 25 as of 2011 in Narayan Municipality, total 4,288 males and 4,447 females were attending the school. Same as, out of total 2,667 population of the same age group who were not attending the school, total 1,034 male and 1,633 female were not attending teh school. The ratio of male and female who were going to school was 0.96 while the ratio for those who were not attending the school was 0.63.The CBS census also states that 145 males and 171 females did not state whether they were attending school or not.
Grade 1-12 Students & Schools
According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 8,261 in Narayan Municipality with 4,125 (49.93%) of males and 4,136 (50.07%) females. There were total 51 schools. In average, 162 students were studying in each school.

Population by Language Spoken
Mostly spoken language in Narayan is Nepali, which is spoken by 26,028 people. The Narayan has people who speak other languages, such as Magar, Maithili, Tharu, Newar, etc.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Narayan Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Chhetri caste with total population of 10,604. There were as little as Terai Others caste with population of as little as 14 in total. People of several other castes who live in Narayan are Kami, Brahmin - Hill, Magar, Thakuri, Sarki, Damai/Dholi, Newar, Gurung, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Badi, Tharu, Muslim, Tamang, Gharti/Bhujel, Terai Others, Yadav, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.
Top five castes of people in Narayan Municipality are Chhetri (10,604), Kami (3,635), Brahmin - Hill (3,086), Magar (2,868) and Thakuri (2,107) with total population of 22,300, which forms 82.48 percent out of total population of 27,037 in Narayan Municipality.Population by Disability
Out of total population of 27,037, there were total 559 (2.07%) disabled persons in Narayan Municipality with 297 (53.13%) males and 262 (46.87%) females. The physically disabled persons were 197, while mentally disabled people were 27 and intellectually disabled were 9.
Similarly, there were 110 people who were blind and 105 people were deaf, while 3 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 84 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 24 people had multiple disabilities.

Household Foundation
Out of total 5791 households in Narayan Municipality, there were 5,081 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 333 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 278 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 26houses were founded on wood.
With respect to wall of the houses, 4,982 houses were mud bonded, 698 houses were cement bonded, 22 houses were wood planks bonded, 9 houses were bamboo bonded and 1 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.
There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 1,647 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 1,198 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 2,086 houses had roof of tile, 649 houses had RCC roofs, 3 houses had roof of woods while 110 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With reference to source of fuel, 5,019 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 19 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 657 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (0), bio-gas (12), fuel electricity (1), etc.

out of 5,791 households in Narayan Municipality, 1,366 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 4,281 households reported of using at least one facility. Economic Census
According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 1,138 establishments in Narayan Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 3,012 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 1,764 and female engagement of 1,248 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.65 people engaged with average males are 1.55 and females are 1.10. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.41, which means as many as 1.41 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
Similarly, the engagement of males were 58.57 percent while the females are 41.43 percent.
