Gorkha is a Municipality, which is located in Gorkha district, Gandaki Province of Nepal. Gorkha has total 14 wards, which are scattered across 132 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Gorkha Municipality had total population of 49,272.
Wardwise Population and Households
As per 2011 population census, Gorkha Municipality had total 49,272 population with 21,959 males and 27,313 females. Out of total wards, ward number 6 had the largest population 7,049, while ward number 1 had least number of population with 7,049.
With respect to number of households, Gorkha Municipality had total 13,127 households. The ward number 6 had most households with total 2,076, while ward number 1 had least number of households with total 547 number of households.
As illustrated in the chart, the ratio of male to female population was 0.80, which indicates that Gorkha Municipality had 20 percent lower males as compared to the females. Same as, the population to household ratio was 3.75, which means that in average 3.75 family members lived in each household.
Absentee Population
As of 2011, 4,579 population in Gorkha Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 9.29 percent of the total population. In terms of age, the largest population in Gorkha Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 6,518. However, gender wise largest population age group differs from the total population, such as largest male population falls between 10 and 14 with total 3,306 while female population falls between 15 and 19 with total 3,232 population. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 848 population, which consistes of 400 males and 448 females. The population with age-group below 4 had male to female ratio of 1.09, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.45. There were 60.51 % (29,813 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 32.53 % with total number of 16,029. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 6.96 % with total number of 3,430. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 39.49 with total number of 19,459
There were 14,862 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 4,191. Literacy, Education Levels & Schooling
There were only 34,296 people fully literate in Gorkha Municipality as of 2011 who were able to both read and write, while 834 people were able to read but not write. In percentage while compared to genderwise population, there were inf percent of male were literate, while the percentage of female literacy was inf only.The literacy ratio between male and female population was nan.
Out of total 14,459 population between the age of 5 and 25 as of 2011 in Gorkha Municipality, total 7,220 males and 7,239 females were attending the school. Same as, out of total 4,053 population of the same age group who were not attending the school, total 1,401 male and 2,652 female were not attending teh school. The ratio of male and female who were going to school was 1.00 while the ratio for those who were not attending the school was 0.53.The CBS census also states that 133 males and 175 females did not state whether they were attending school or not.
Grade 1-12 Students & Schools
According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 1,731 in Gorkha Municipality with 837 (48.35%) of males and 894 (51.65%) females. There were total 75 schools. In average, 23 students were studying in each school.

Population by Language Spoken
Mostly spoken language in Gorkha is Nepali, which is spoken by 42,258 people. The Gorkha has people who speak other languages, such as Gurung, Urdu, Magar, Kumal, Tamang, Bhojpuri, Newar, Ghale, Hindi, Maithili, Tharu, Rai, Bangla, Sunuwar, Limbu, etc.

There were as little as Foreigner caste with population of as little as 11 in total. People of several other castes who live in Gorkha are Magar, Brahmin - Hill, Sarki, Newar, Gurung, Kami, Kumal, Muslim, Damai/Dholi, Tamang, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Gharti/Bhujel, Thakuri, Darai, Ghale, Brahmu/Baramo, Tharu, Nuniya, Gaine, Badi, Rai, Teli, Dalit Others, Koiri/Kushwaha, Undefined Others, Limbu, Majhi, Sunuwar, Kathbaniyan, Hajam/Thakur, Chamar/Harijan/Ram, Kanu, Brahmin - Tarai, Kalwar, Thakali, Bangali, Kurmi, Terai Others, Foreigner, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Out of total population of 49,272, there were total 795 (1.61%) disabled persons in Gorkha Municipality with 436 (54.84%) males and 359 (45.16%) females. The physically disabled persons were 317, while mentally disabled people were 78 and intellectually disabled were 33.
Similarly, there were 103 people who were blind and 103 people were deaf, while 6 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 97 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 58 people had multiple disabilities.

Household Foundation
Out of total 13127 households in Gorkha Municipality, there were 8,388 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 1,353 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 3,096 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 218houses were founded on wood.
With respect to wall of the houses, 8,125 houses were mud bonded, 4,694 houses were cement bonded, 141 houses were wood planks bonded, 87 houses were bamboo bonded and 1 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

Similarly, 1,915 houses had roof of tile, 3,764 houses had RCC roofs, 8 houses had roof of woods while 4 houses were reported having roof of mud. With reference to source of fuel, 7,404 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 65 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 4,834 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (7), bio-gas (722), fuel electricity (3), etc.
Same as, total 12,461 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 550, while 4 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.95.

out of 13,127 households in Gorkha Municipality, 946 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 11,939 households reported of using at least one facility. Economic Census
According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 3,059 establishments in Gorkha Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 10,225 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 5,918 and female engagement of 4,307 persons.In every business, there were an average of 3.34 people engaged with average males are 1.93 and females are 1.41. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.37, which means as many as 1.37 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
Similarly, the engagement of males were 57.88 percent while the females are 42.12 percent.
