Palungtar is a Municipality, which is located in Gorkha district, Gandaki Province of Nepal. Palungtar has total 10 wards, which are scattered across 159 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Palungtar Municipality had total population of 38,174.
Wardwise Population and Households
As per 2011 population census, Palungtar Municipality had total 38,174 population with 16,604 males and 21,570 females. Out of total wards, ward number 7 had the largest population 5,141, while ward number 10 had least number of population with 5,141.
With respect to number of households, Palungtar Municipality had total 9,924 households. The ward number 7 had most households with total 1,250, while ward number 10 had least number of households with total 656 number of households.

There were 58.33 % (22,265 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 32.49 % with total number of 12,403. There were only 24,172 people fully literate in Palungtar Municipality as of 2011 who were able to both read and write, while 724 people were able to read but not write. In percentage while compared to genderwise population, there were inf percent of male were literate, while the percentage of female literacy was inf only.The literacy ratio between male and female population was nan.
Out of total 11,446 population between the age of 5 and 25 as of 2011 in Palungtar Municipality, total 5,641 males and 5,805 females were attending the school. Same as, out of total 3,361 population of the same age group who were not attending the school, total 974 male and 2,387 female were not attending teh school. The ratio of male and female who were going to school was 0.97 while the ratio for those who were not attending the school was 0.41.The CBS census also states that 82 males and 115 females did not state whether they were attending school or not.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 19,152 in Palungtar Municipality with 9,117 (47.60%) of males and 10,035 (52.40%) females. There were total 62 schools. In average, 309 students were studying in each school.

Population by Language Spoken
Mostly spoken language in Palungtar is Nepali, which is spoken by 34,326 people. The Palungtar has people who speak other languages, such as Tamang, Magar, Gurung, Newar, Kumal, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Hindi, Maithili, Majhi, etc.

There were as little as Bhote caste with population of as little as 11 in total. People of several other castes who live in Palungtar are Brahmin - Hill, Kumal, Sarki, Newar, Magar, Tamang, Kami, Gurung, Damai/Dholi, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Gharti/Bhujel, Muslim, Thakuri, Brahmu/Baramo, Gaine, Majhi, Badi, Kamar, Ghale, Rai, Darai, Sunuwar, Tharu, Haluwai, Bhote, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Out of total 9924 households in Palungtar Municipality, there were 9,177 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 362 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 107 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 248houses were founded on wood.
With respect to wall of the houses, 8,917 houses were mud bonded, 677 houses were cement bonded, 138 houses were wood planks bonded, 145 houses were bamboo bonded and 16 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.88.

out of 9,924 households in Palungtar Municipality, 1,378 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 8,475 households reported of using at least one facility. Economic Census
According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 1,474 establishments in Palungtar Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 4,029 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 2,195 and female engagement of 1,834 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.73 people engaged with average males are 1.49 and females are 1.24. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.20, which means as many as 1.20 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
Similarly, the engagement of males were 54.48 percent while the females are 45.52 percent.
