In 2017 election of Joshipur Rural Municipality (Kailali district), candidate Ram Krishna Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,432 (27.07%) votes out of total votes of 12,676 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Biru Prasad Chaudhary of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) who secured 2,741 (17.02%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 6,503 (25.65) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Geeta Kathariya of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,768 (30.92%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Kiran Chaudhary of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) secured 3,489 (21.87%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,928 (20.22) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 204 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 120 (58.82%) males and 84 (41.18%) females. Moreover, there were total 41 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 78 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 39 females and 31 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
