In 2017 election of Ghodaghodi Municipality (Kailali district), candidate Mamata Prasad Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,164 (31.22%) votes out of total votes of 26,148 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Laxman Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 7,237 (21.09%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 10,747 (20.55) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Prem Kumari Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,234 (28.29%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Durga Chalaune (khadka) of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 7,019 (21.40%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 11,316 (22.13) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 362 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 213 (58.84%) males and 149 (41.16%) females. Moreover, there were total 79 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 138 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 65 females and 63 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
