In 2017 election of Gauriganga Municipality (Kailali district), candidate Bhim Bahadur Deuwa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,891 (30.73%) votes out of total votes of 19,171 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Devi Datta Kadel of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 5,830 (23.26%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 7,450 (19.43) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Anchala Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,143 (32.50%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Karuna Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,373 (21.45%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,386 (19.54) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 291 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 158 (54.30%) males and 133 (45.70%) females. Moreover, there were total 60 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 107 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 56 females and 52 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
