In 2017 election of Godawari Municipality (Kailali district), candidate Hari Singh Saud of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,870 (37.23%) votes out of total votes of 26,513 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Birendra Bhatt of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 8,457 (23.24%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,186 (15.44) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Ratna Kadayat of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,025 (38.18%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Bhagwati Ojha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,972 (24.73%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,260 (13.82) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 264 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 154 (58.33%) males and 110 (41.67%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 95 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 49 females and 44 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
